Sonnie:Welcome back to another episode of Evoke Greatness. Today, I want to talk about the importance of sticking your neck out for others, especially when it comes to the spirit of mentorship. About an hour and a half drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, where I am spending the weekend on a women's retreat, and I got to thinking about this concept of mentorship and, even more so, going a layer deeper, the times where we actually put our own selves out there to lift others up. When you think about it, it's the impact of one person's support, right? So I want to tell you about my beautiful friend, rachel Barbeau. Rachel, her story is a perfect example of how one person's willingness to take a chance on someone can really create a ripple effect of positive change. So Rachel is the founder of a powerful movement called I'm Changing the Narrative, and her work focuses on addressing mental health issues in primarily male-dominated sports. That's a topic that is often overlooked, but still critically important.
Sonnie:What's really remarkable about Rachel's journey is how she's been able to reach so many people with her message. Time and time again, people have stuck their necks out for Rachel. They've invited her to speak to their teams, whether it's at a college level or even in pro sports, and these invitations weren't just simple bookings. These were acts of faith. By bringing Rachel in, these people were saying I believe in you and I believe in your message, and I'm willing to put my reputation on the line because I think what you have to say is important. Rachel now makes it a point to do this for other people. Put my reputation on the line because I think what you have to say is important. Rachel now makes it a point to do this for other people, and she encourages the rest of us to really get on board with this concept.
Sonnie:So, thinking about Rachel's experiences, along with going to the retreat this weekend, it really made me reflect on my own journey, and many of the opportunities I've had in my life or in my career came because someone was willing to vouch for me, to create an opening, maybe where there wasn't one previously, and these people put their reputations on the line. They believed in my potential, even when it was not even visible for myself. I wasn't seeing what they were seeing, but the concept of lifting each other up. It reminds me of a verse in the Bible in its 1 Thessalonians 5.11, and it says Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as, in fact, you are doing. This verse, it encapsulates the essence of what we're talking about today. It's a call to action, urging us to be active participants in each other's growth and success.
Sonnie:So we should ask ourselves some important questions. What are we doing to lift others up? Are we creating opportunities for others by vouching for them? Are we sticking our neck out for them? Are we recognizing the potential in those around us, and are we stretching people past what they think they're capable of Now? The last question is particularly powerful because when we push people beyond their perceived limits, that's often where the real magic happens. We might be surprised by what people can achieve when given the chance and the support. So here's my call to action for each of you If you haven't stuck your neck out for someone lately, I really, really want to encourage you to do so, and I don't mean like hey, this year, this quarter, like today, seriously, stick your neck out for someone today.
Sonnie:Why not? What do you have to lose by doing it? By doing that for somebody you actually believe in? Or, better yet, what does someone else have to gain from your support? It doesn't have to be some big, grand gesture. Maybe it's recommending someone for a job or inviting them to speak at an event. Maybe it's even introducing them to a valuable contact or offering words of encouragement when they're doubting themselves. Remember, every successful person you admire got where they are because someone at some point took a chance on them. They had a mentor, they had a supporter. Somebody, somebody believed in them, and you have the power to be that person for someone else. Your words, your action and your willingness to put yourself out there on someone else's behalf these things truly can change the trajectory of someone's life or career. So I want to challenge each of you Go out there, stick your neck out for somebody, be the person who says I believe in you. You never know, your act of faith might just be the catalyst that launches someone's dreams into reality. So until next time, my friends, keep lifting each other up. Watch how it transforms you and everyone around you. As I always say, a rising tide raises all ships.

I'll leave you with the wise words of author Robin Sharma Greatness comes by doing a few small and smart things each and every day. It comes from taking little steps consistently. It comes from making a few small chips against everything in your professional and personal life that is ordinary, so that a day eventually arrives when all that's left is the extraordinary.
