Speaker 1:I was in Dallas this week to speak at a conference about leadership superpowers, and I thought we could similarly explore the topic that is absolutely fundamental to exceptional leadership, and that is recognizing and unleashing your superpowers, your leadership superpowers You're probably thinking superpowers, leadership. Let's connect the two Absolutely. They're not at all about leaping tall buildings in a single bound. They are about transforming your leadership impact in ways that you might not have considered before. In our journey of evoking greatness, we often focus on tangible skills and measurable outcomes, and while those are crucial, today I want to dive into the hidden superpowers that truly set transformational leaders apart. These are the abilities that not only elevate your performance, but they also inspire and empower people around you. So we're going to walk through the three key superpowers here. That is, the art of impactful mentorship, the strength of emotional intelligence and the power to shape organizational culture. These superpowers, they're not reserved for a chosen few. They are within reach for every single leader willing to develop them. So let's dive in. Let's talk through how to unleash these superpowers in yourself and others. We're going to start with the art of impactful mentorship. I think this is the foundation of so much. This is really a solid foundation. Let's start with the art of impactful mentorship. This superpower is about more than just sharing knowledge. It's about igniting potential in others. So think about a time when someone believed in you, challenged you to grow beyond your perceived limits. That's the essence of transformative mentorship.
Speaker 1:I know something that I battled early on was imposter syndrome mentorship. I know something that I battled early on was imposter syndrome. I did not feel equipped or prepared to be in an elevated role and, if I'm being really honest, I didn't feel like I deserved it either. So how did I get there? Well, several mentors over the course of my career recognized something in me that I could not see. They stuck their neck out for me and they helped pour into me to develop the necessary skills I needed for these bigger, more elevated roles. What's the saying if someone offers you a seat on a rocket ship. You don't ask which seat, you just get on. Well, I am where I am because of two things, and the first of that was incredible mentorship People seeing something in me that I couldn't see myself. And then, when I got that opportunity, I worked my butt off. But I've never forgotten that number two wouldn't have come without number one, and today I love to be the person recognizing something in someone else that they don't see and giving them opportunities to grow and stretch and oftentimes surprise themselves in what they're capable of. I don't just see it as the right thing to do, rather as my responsibility as a leader. The beauty of this is that it's a two-way street as you guide others, you find yourself growing, learning, seeing leadership challenges from fresh perspectives. Growing, learning, seeing leadership challenges from fresh perspectives. It's a superpower that compounds over time and creates a ripple effect of growth and development throughout your organization, your team, those around you. It's a win-win.
Speaker 1:Now let's move on to number two, our second superpower emotional intelligence, or EQ. In the realm of evoking greatness, eq is literally your secret weapon. It's the ability to understand and manage your own emotions while skillfully navigating the emotions of others. That can get a little hairy sometimes. I know that my EQ really engages when I have to have a difficult conversation. I can give that person enough respect to be honest and transparent with them about what the issue is at hand, and I can do it in a way that's compassionate. I wholeheartedly believe that if we aren't having these difficult conversations with others because we're uncomfortable or because we feel like they're going to be uncomfortable, they're going to be feel like they're going to be uncomfortable, they're going to be upset, they're going to be mad at us. If we aren't having those conversations, we are robbing those people of the opportunity to get better Now. Not everyone will want to do something different, but some will make the bold choice to. These people will forge a new path. Developing your EQ is like upgrading your leadership operating system. It enhances every interaction, decision and strategy. High EQ leaders create environments of trust. They foster open communication and they navigate conflicts with grace.
Speaker 1:Now let's hop to number three the superpower of shaping organizational culture. This is where you truly evoke greatness on a broader scale. Culture isn't just about policies or perks or having the ping pong table or the Google style office. It's the invisible force that guides how people think, act and interact within your organization. I believe that we can all influence culture, and the scary thing is that can be positive or negative. Remember, as a leader, you're always influencing culture, whether intentionally or not. Every decision, every interaction, every policy sends a message about what's valued in your organization. Don't forget that.
Speaker 1:As we wrap up today's episode, what I want to leave you with is this thought your greatest impact as a leader often comes from these less tangible but incredibly powerful superpowers. Mentorship, emotional intelligence and cultural influences are the forces that truly bring out the best in yourself, in your team and your entire organization. This week, I challenge you to consciously exercise at least one of these superpowers Mentor a team member, practice deep listening or take a step to positively shape your culture. Then pay attention to the ripple effects of your actions. Remember, evoking greatness is not a destination, it's a journey, and it's through the consistent application of these superpowers that we grow into the leaders we aspire to be. So I'll close out with another one of my absolute favorite quotes, and it's from an old Greek proverb Blessed are those who plant trees under whose shade they may never sit. Rewind this back 10 seconds and listen to it again. Let that really penetrate your mind and your heart. It is deeply powerful. I wish you all an amazing long weekend. Thank you so much for listening and for being here on this journey with me. I hope you'll stick around If you liked this episode.

I love the feedback and comments that I've been getting, so please keep them coming. I'll leave you with the wise words of author Robin Sharma Greatness comes by doing a few small and smart things each and every day. It comes from taking little steps consistently. It comes from making a few small chips against everything in your professional and personal life that is ordinary, so that a day eventually arrives when all that's left is the extraordinary.
